EVERY LOTHIAN BUS… has a home.
The Lothian family consists of Lothian Buses, East Coast Buses, Lothian Country, Edinburgh Bus Tours, Lothian Motorcoaches and Eve Coaches. With 8 garages, 1 workshop and 4 retail spaces located across Edinburgh, East Lothian and West Lothian, we are home to a wide variety of services ranging from bus and coach tours, private coach hire and service buses. We are one of the region’s largest employers, with a workforce of more than 2,600 people, many of whom live in Edinburgh and the Lothians or have chosen to make the area their home. We have proudly served Edinburgh and the Lothians since 1919.
EVERY LOTHIAN BUS… has someone that cares.
Our people care about our customers and the local communities we serve. We take our social responsibility extremely seriously and work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure our services are safe, reliable and accessible for all. We have a dedicated accessibility function, offering customers supported journeys with our Accessibility and Inclusion Officer, and the opportunity to familiarise themselves with bus travel via our ‘Try a Bus’ events.
Lothian’s drivers take part in our CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) course, which is undertaken annually, often delivered in partnership with an accessibility organisation such as the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB). Our drivers care about their customers’ experience and strive to get it right every time.
We also have a dedicated Police Liaison Officer who works closely with our operations teams to ensure that our drivers and customers are safe while on our services.
Every two years Lothian welcomes applications from charitable causes to serve as the focus of the company’s fundraising efforts, to amplify their messages, and raise awareness across our colleagues and customers. Our current Charity of Choice is VOCAL, who help unpaid carers in Edinburgh and Midlothian.
Recently we entered into a partnership with Strut Safe, a volunteer-operated support telephone line offering a friendly voice for those travelling alone late at night.
EVERY LOTHIAN BUS… has real supporters.
At Lothian, we have incredible teams behind the scenes, working hard to ensure all our services run smoothly. Supporting our operations department are our engineering teams who make sure our buses are safe, clean and fit for service.
We also have hardworking customer support, product support and retail teams who assist customers with travel queries, ticket information, lost property enquiries, and more.
At our Head Office, our control room team monitor our network 24/7, 365 days a year, and are there to offer guidance and support for our drivers who are out on service. Within this team are incident response colleagues who go out to colleagues working across our network to offer support as and when required., i.e. vehicle breakdowns.
And of course, our biggest supporters are the more than two million customers who choose to use our services every week!
EVERY LOTHIAN BUS… has a routine.
Before the bus reaches your stop on any given day, a huge amount of work has already gone on behind the scenes in our garages to get them ready. Vehicles are allocated to each specific route and our operations and engineering teams work together during the morning ‘run out’, making sure every vehicle on the road is fit for service and up to standard.
Our colleagues in our commercial team monitor the network, identifying trends and collating data, to create a comprehensive network for our customers to best fit their needs.
EVERY LOTHIAN BUS… has time for fun.
It’s not always all work and no fun… Sometimes our buses are seen out of service at events across Edinburgh and the Lothians! Thousands of members of the public flock to our garage to attend our annual Doors Open Day to get a closer look at our vehicles and take a sneaky peek behind the scenes at Lothian. Our vehicles are also regular fixtures at emergency services days in partnership with Police Scotland, at college and university student fairs, and charitable events.
Our people have fun, too! Every year we host internal events such as our Charity Golf Day, where our people come together for a round of golf to raise funds for our Charity of Choice. Our annual People Awards honours those who have gone above and beyond in their roles, and our Long Service celebration recognises colleagues with 25, 30 and 35+ years of service with the company.
EVERY LOTHIAN BUS… has a time for rest.
Each night when our buses return from service, they are attended to by our engineering teams. Fueller/Shunters move the vehicles around the depot to be refuelled and to take them through the bus wash to clean off any grime from the exterior. Cleaning teams tackle the interior, with all common contact points, such as railings and stop-buttons, cleaned so that they are sparkling ahead of service.
EVERY LOTHIAN BUS… it’s us and you.
