Charity of Choice Application

Applications now open to be next Charity of Choice

Lothian Buses has championed the causes of a number of charities close to our colleagues’ hearts since 2017 through our Charity of Choice initiative.

Every two years, applications are welcomed from charitable causes to serve as the focus of the company’s fundraising efforts, to amplify their messages, and raise awareness across our colleagues and customers.

This year, following the integration of bus and tram operations in the city, we are delighted to share that Edinburgh Trams will join us in supporting our Charity of Choice, bringing even more colleagues and customers together behind causes that make a real difference in the communities we serve.

Following a shortlisting process led by the Charity of Choice Committee, the final decision will be put to a vote by Lothian Buses’ and Edinburgh Trams’ combined workforce of more than 3,000 colleagues, who will select the next charity to be named Charity of Choice.

Applications are welcome for charities of all sizes!

Yes, only organisations officially registered with OSCR with a charity number are eligible to apply.

Yes – charities who’ve been successful in the past are welcome to apply again.

National charities are welcome to apply; however we would require evidence of how services and/or funds are used within our operating area.

The first stage of applications runs from 31 August and will close on 18 September.

Following this, charities who’ve been successful at the first stage will be invited to provide more in-depth information in a second application stage which will open in late September and close in early October.

Our Charities Committee will then review and discuss all applications and will shortlist a select number of charities to attend a presentation session with the committee in December.

Following these presentations, the committee will select two charity finalists. These finalists will then be put to a vote by Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams colleagues in January, with the successful charity becoming our Charity of Choice partner for 2027/28.

Your charity must be able to demonstrably evidence its impact within one or more of the following areas: City of Edinburgh, West Lothian, East Lothian and Midlothian.

The Charity of Choice Committee brings together a broad range of experience and expertise from across Lothian and Edinburgh Trams, with representation from our senior leadership and director teams, Unite the Union, with responsibilities across finance, marketing and communications, operations and engineering.

Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications received for our Charity of Choice partnership it is not possible to provide individual feedback.
