Community engagement team
Our community engagement team engages with the communities who use our services and strives to improve our environmental performance.
We aim to get more people on board with bus travel. Team members get out and about, taking our vehicles to events, talking to passengers and schoolchildren, giving presentations and organising our annual open day.
Team members who regularly help with community work include:
Dr. Steve Johnson, Environmental & CSR Manager
Steve joined Lothian Buses from Durham University in 2006. He has previously worked as a bus driver and scheduler.
Sarah Taylor, Communications & PR Manager
Since joining Lothian Buses in 2005, Sarah has held roles in customer services and special projects.
Neil Hudson, Scheduler
Neil joined Lothian Buses in 2004 as a bus driver. He had previously worked for South Yorkshire Transport and Scottish Citylink.
So far the team has directly engaged with more than 3,500 young people, helped to launch Edinburgh’s first hybrid buses, delivered gifts from Santa to children at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, and helped make Edinburgh’s streets safer for walkers and cyclists.
Most of the team take on this community work voluntarily, in addition to day-to-day duties. This means the team has a range of backgrounds and expertise – including driving, scheduling, tours, communications, marketing, customer services and sustainability.
We recently recruited more volunteers and now have over 70 team members to choose from – each with a unique perspective to offer. We select the most appropriate people for each community project from the pool of talent available.
