After 20 weeks in service our new Hybrid buses are proving their environmental credentials.
The fifteen ADL Enviro 400 double-deckers are used predominantly on Service 10 between Western Harbour and Torphin/Bonaly. In addition the Hybrid buses see service on our NIGHTBUSES network to many areas of the City and beyond.
Based on improvements in fuel efficiency to date, it is projected that the Hybrid vehicles will reduce the company's annual carbon footprint by over 600 Tonnes per year. Pre-launch publicity claimed the buses should use at least 30% less fuel than the vehicles they replaced - a figure which is easily being surpassed on a daily basis.
Dr Steve Johnson, Environmental Manager said:
"Lothian Buses are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our buses and operations. The 600 tonne projected annual carbon saving from the Hybrids represents a major step towards achieving this goal. The carbon saving coupled to significant improvements in exhaust emissions and noise pollution mean the Hybrids have been a successful addition to our bus fleet"
